Introduction

The research at the Institute of Chemical Technology at the Universität Stuttgart (www.uni-stuttgart.de) is focused on the synthesis and modification of zeolites and related micro- and mesoporous materials as well as on their application as catalysts and adsorbents. The group has a broad expertise in both the preparation, modification and the characterisation of micro- and mesoporous materials. Prof. Weitkamp is author of more than 300 scientific publications. In addition, he is one of the editors of the 8th Vol. Handbook of Heterogeneous Catalysis.

The competences

Synthesis and characterisation of porous materials (zeolites, mesoporous materials, large crystals, nanocrystals...). Application of porous solids as adsorbents or in heterogeneously catalyzed processes. Synthesis and characterisation of catalysts especially for the non-oxidative activation of light alkanes, alkylation of aromatics with light alkanes in packed-bed membrane reactors.

The role in NEXT-GTL

Responsible for task 3.4, i.e. alkylation of aromatics with ethane and propane from natural gas.
