Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique

Introduction

The Laboratoire de Chimie Organométallique de Surface (LCOMS) is a Joint Research Unit (JRU or UMR in French) between CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique/French Public research organization), CPE-Lyon (Chemistry School of Lyon) and UCBL (Université Claude Bernard or Lyon I University). The group is world famous for their activity in grafting of organometallic compounds onto oxides, metals and zeolites. Applications ranges from the upgrading of alkanes (isomerization, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis) , alkenes (isomerization, hydrogenation, oxydation, polymerization), environment / depollution, polymer degradation, biphasic systems and homogeneous systems. Yves CHAUVIN, Emeritus Director of Research of LCOMS, was awarded with the Nobel Prize in 2005. New research area focus on the grafting reaction of heteropolyanions on oxide materials leading them redox and/or acid properties which could be useful for the activation of alkanes (several industrial processes of conversion of alkanes use such catalysts).

The role in NEXT-GTL

The main role in the project is in relation with WP2 (Task 2.1) and specifically to the development of surface organometallic complexes for C-H bond activation in methane.
